Unfortunately, sometimes home sellers just don’t like real estate agents. There are five reasons that stand out.
I talk to a ton of sellers in the area and we sell a ton of homes, and I find the first reason is that sometimes agents just don’t listen. They just seem too busy, and that’s mainly because agents are usually a one-person show and just don’t have the resources to hire multiple people and do a great job for a client. They get too busy and forget all the necessary steps it takes to sell a home for top dollar.
Many agents are pushy as well. Some are so pushy that if you’re not ready to sign a contract with them right then and there, they won’t give you the time of day to go through your house or give you suggestions to sell for top dollar.
Another reason sellers don’t like agents is a lack of communication. This goes back to individuals who try to work by themselves and get caught up in too many things. You can’t show, market, and sell homes while telling 8,000 agents about the home, and do it all well. Sometimes people will tell me about agents who list a house, the house sits on the market for six months, and then the day before the contract expires, the agent shows up and suggests renewing the contract for six more months without speaking before then!

Everyone’s biggest fear is underpricing your home.

Probably everyone’s biggest fear is underpricing their home. It takes good data and market research to determine your home’s position, and your average agent doesn’t know that information. They don’t sell enough homes or know what buyers are looking for. It makes sellers upset when they see agents marketing themselves as a “neighborhood expert” when really they’ve only sold two area homes in the last eight years!
